1938. A child reads a comic book about a Metropolitan newspaper, The Daily Planet. Meanwhile Krypton, a planet which orbits around a red sun - six galaxies away - is inhabited by a race of super beings. Jor-El (Marlon Brando), the planet’s greatest scientist (sporting a ‘S’ shaped crest), is overseeing the trial and conviction of three criminals. The Council of Elders finds General Zod, Non and Ursa guilty. Zod (unsuccessfully) threatens Jor-El before being banished from Krypton to the Phantom Zone, a place of limbo outside of their planet.

Jor-El is more concerned with trying to get the rest of his council to evacuate the planet, before it explodes (being pulled towards its main star). He is told by the Council that if he tells the public, he himself will also be sent to the Phantom Zone. As a result, Jor-El and his wife, Lara, send their baby son to the “primitive? planet of Earth. She is concerned he will be “odd? due to the difference in his molecular structure. Joe-El places a green crystal in the starship, which contains not only the knowledge of himself and Lara, but the whole planet. The starship leaves as the planet explodes, as Jor-El rightly predicted. As Kal-El travels (and ages), Jor-El’s voice gives his son all his knowledge and information about his planet, his abilities and codes for conduct on Earth.

1948. The starship crashes, like a meteor, into a wheat field in Smallville, Kansas. Jonathon and Martha Kent, an elderly farming couple, witness this and find the three year old Kal-El climbing out of the crater, with his red cape / robe. Martha thinks that God has sent the child and, after seeing his is different (he can lift a car) they adopt him.

Cut to the 18 year old school boy, named Clark (Jeff East), now a student at Smallville High. He is shy, bullied, and with a crush on Lana Lang, he frustrated that has to hide his superpowers (seen by a...
