Lesson Sixteen: Ideology

Starter/Loop Activity (5 Minutes)

Slide 2 Task 16A Students asked to respond to the task from the Lesson Resource: Analysis of Bonnie and Clyde still. Students to write response in books/ folders.

Prepare the Learning (5 Minutes)

Share the objectives. Remind students of the objectives we are working towards meeting. (1) Feedback as appropriate on the starter task as directed Q&A – no hands up policy here, please. (2) Feedback on work last lesson and (3) any feedback from assessment of the
Home Learning tasks set thus far.

Construct the Learning (25 Minutes discussion, Q&A)

Slide 3 The work of this lesson moves a focus towards the impact of ideologies – specifically considering the ideologies of each era and how it impacts on films rather than the more superficial element of fashion or design.

We need to consider the learning points of Slide 4 as a discussion topic. These are quite straightforward but may require some prompting for the points re implications for the spectator audience. The research for each era/film has to push into the deeper thinking of values rather than fashion.

Slides 6-7 Task 16B Set the task based around viewing of the opening of Bonnie and Clyde. Here we are concerned with how the film language constructs a view of the period of the 1930s by applying values of the production era of the sixties. We are concerned that this film is setting out a challenge to the conventional mainstream values of the early sixties towards representations of women, crime etc.
