Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson) is Kick Ass. The film begins with his voiceover about superheroes and the story of his life. Six months ago, he was “the last person you would expect to be a superhero?. He is an American student who doesn’t belong to any clubs, “invisible to girls“, he fantasises about his English teacher and has a crush on Katie Deauxma, a cute girl who has a locker near his. His mother died 18 months ago of an aneurysm, and he lives with his dad. Instead of following the normal superhero codes of avenging, he accepts that “life goes on?. He and his friends, Toddy and Marty, discuss superheroes in the comic book cafe - he wonders why people don’t become super heroes.

Chris D’Amico (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) is a rich comic book fan, is spoilt and lonely. He is the son of a mobster, and is guarded at all times, so when nice guy Dave tries to make friends - he is pushed away. Chris longs to be like his father. In another part of town, his father, Frank D’Amico’s (Mark Strong) henchmen are torturing a man, who claims that a Batman figure attacked them and stole all their cocaine. Thinking he has ripped them off, Frank orders for him to be killed and takes Frank to the movies. He then hears that the information may be true, he decides to visit the Russian he thinks is messing things up for him. We then see his men blow the Russian up in a giant microwave.

Dave and Toddy are mugged by a couple of low level gangsters, which is the catalyst for Dave’s internet shop (a green and yellow wetsuit as his costume) and transformation into a superhero. He practises (trying to ) jump rooftops, and tries to take on the muggers. He is stabbed in the chest when he tries to fit them, and his then the victim of a hit and run. He begs the paramedic to hide his suit, so arriving at the hospital naked.
