This is the First A Level Eduqas (WJEC) NEA Unit

The purpose of this unit is not to tell anyone ‘what you must do’ or ‘this is the way that you must do it’. The work here is based on over twenty years of teaching Film Studies at A level and KS4 in a very large (2,500 pupils) urban comprehensive in what was once described as one of the most deprived areas in the UK. The Lesson Resource Slides contain everything necessary to teach sessions that will prepare your students to respond to the Advanced Level NEA requirements of Eduqas. Depending on your own levels of experience, expertise, confidence in both your teaching or in teaching your specification, you may follow the sessions line by line or adapt the material to suit your needs and those of your students.

For each session, I have used the ideas based on the approved material readily available during the writing of the unit in Autumn 2017. The examples and selection of short films are there to support you in your teaching of the NEA work, where the interventions you may make are clearly prescribed and limited by Eduqas. The best way, of course, is for you to take each session and, where desirable, substitute your own Loop activities, favourite/well-tried images/films etc. that are suited to your own personal style of teaching and you feel comfortable to demonstrate the points we need to make.

For those of you who are new to Film teaching, then this Teacher Guide - alongside the Lesson Resource Slides, Student Workbook, and Teaching Overview - provide all that you need to get the job done. For those of you seeking fresh ideas or additional materials, then dip in and take what you need. For experienced staff who have been scouring the internet and posting on media forums debating the new specifications and which to...
